One of the most popular codecs in the last few years is the one known as DivX, but its proprietary license led several developers to create a similar codec that doesn't include its hindrances. Xvid (DivX the other way round) was the resulting format from that project, and it quickly reached the same level as its rival.

Xvid is a codec based on the MPEG-4 standard, and its compression is standardized by means of the MPEG-4 ASP codifier, that make it compatible with almost any player without any need to adapt it. Nevertheless, if its advanced features are used it can be incompatible with some players, so to make sure that we can view any video in XviD format, the best thing we can do is install this software.
Thanks to this program, we will be able to configure both the playback as well as the codification of the videos on our computer. So that we will be able to accomplish the quality of our choice. Moreover, this program includes several utilities that can be used to indicate the features of the videos and various parameters that will help us when it comes to playing them.
