The description of Marathon - Play With New Friends
Marathon is an FPS that was originally released in 1994, first for the Macintosh operating system and later for Windows. This game was developed by Bungie -the creators of the Halo and Destiny series- and offers a game experience that's very similar to those titles.Bungie released the code for Marathon 2 In 1999, which lead to the development of Aleph One, an open-source game engine capable of running the Marathon trilogy on modern machines. This version uses the same game engine, which means you can play in high resolution and widescreen format, as well as customize the graphics and controls.Overall, Marathon is a great FPS. To put the game in context, it was released just one year after the original Doom. This game has a much deeper storyline, which is narrated almost entirely through terminals spread out over a spaceship, where the adventure takes place. That being said, the action is a bit slower paced. Surprisingly, the result is most similar to Half-Life, which was released years later. Marathon is one of the great 90s shooters that -despite its great influence on the genre- remains shrouded in darkness. Thankfully, you can enjoy Marathon on any modern computer running any operating system thanks to this free, open-source version.
