Valhalla Bound is an arcade game where players control Aros, the Viking master archer whose was entrusted with the task of helping his deceased brothers to reach Valhalla, where they can rest beside Odin. In order to do so, you'll need to accurately launch flaming arrows against the funeral ships. Shooting each arrow is simple enough, just press and hold down on your screen while using your best aim. The longer you hold down on your screen, the more you charge each shot and the straighter your arrow flies. Your goal is to let no boat leave the screen without catching fire, because otherwise the spirit of that Viking will not be able to reach the gates of Valhalla. As you go beyond levels, the game introduces more and more difficulties to increase your challenge. Dragons and giant tortoises, for example, are a major problem; but rain can also become hugely annoying as it tends to put out the flames on your boats. Valhalla Bound is an arcade game with a simple approach, and as a plus its graphic section is a true love letter to the 8-bit genre. A genuine crown jewel of the neo-retro gaming world.
