There are various locations in each game that’s connected to their overall theme and tons of activities to do in each of them. You have to scroll back and forth with the screen to get around—with large arrows pointing to other areas that you can access—and almost everything you’ll see can be interacted with, like lamps being tapped on either light up or turn off. There’s a top-left panel that offers what kinds of characters you can use and drag on the screen, and you can toggle what emotions they’re feeling and what they’re wearing. However, what My City game you have will dictate what locations you can access, so residential homes and such from My City: Home might not be available in My City: Office. What’s cool about this series, however, is that you can import your characters and their items, so when you switch games, you can still use them. They won’t be there at the start because you will have to be the one to decide where these characters will go and what they’ll be doing while running this colorful place. The top-left button provides you with several of these characters, so the most you’ll be doing first is exploring everything and see what you can or can’t do in the game—which will mostly just be about having trouble with picking up specific items because of how close most items are. My City games are generous with the number of character-and-item combos they have. Any character can hold onto anything, sit and stand anywhere, and wear whatever. Unfortunately, they won’t move on their own or even start doing animations when you give them items. My City characters are essentially paper dolls—this gameplay is geared towards children who love to play house and supply their own stories to what’s happening. This is perfect for creative and imaginative kids, though, and so the sheer number of interactive items on-screen will definitely keep them entertained for hours as they pretend to run the orphanage.
