Based on Android, CyanogenMod came along as an open-source operating system that could be installed on rooted smartphones and tablets. It offered us a series of features and functions that weren't present on the distributions launched by Google, assuring that it improved its performance. However, it disappeared on the 31st of December of 2016.
Lineage, the substitute of CyanogenMod
But some come and some go. Lineage OS introduces itself as the continuation of CM, or at least its successor. Based on its source code, the community of developers has worked on a new version of the operating system. So, taking into account that it's based on the latter, in this new open-source operating system we'll find the following functions and features:
Support for tethering via WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB.
Built-in OpenVPN client.
Support for FLAC audio codecs.
Absence of bloatware and spyware.
Application launcher with high customization possibilities.
Application tray to organize all the apps.
Greater customization options for the device's sounds: ringtone volume, vibration intensity, loading sounds...
Adapts to the atmospheric lighting.
Larger home screen hiding the status bar.
Configurable screen density.
Screen size can be configured as a percentage.
Better notification management.
Shortcuts from the lock screen.
New functions for the physical volume and ON/OFF buttons.
Create different user profiles depending on your location the network you're connected to.
Customize the status bar.
Greater privacy control that allows us to block incoming calls and applications.
This project is developed by the vast majority of Cyanogen's developers.
