It is said that there is nothing like dialogue to resolve conflict. Maybe that's not what the kids at Terry Young Studio had in mind when they decided to create a game where we could beat our opponents with vocabulary and words. That way, we can learn the basics of the Japanese language while facing a lot of monsters in dark dungeons.
The bloody letter comes in
I'm sure you feel more than identified with the protagonist of Japanese Dungeon. This poor gentleman has no money to travel to Japan, but he decides to learn the language by crushing orcs so that he can save money.
This title is a super original proposal that invites us to learn the Japanese ideograms and vocabulary while we play. Without knowing the basics of the Japanese language we will not be able to advance.
Develop your ability to read Japanese words while you are playing.
Every time we enter a dungeon we will have to beat the monsters through a turn system (or something like that). Before each battle we will see the vocabulary we will play with. We will have to memorize it well, because in each turn we will get a kana or a word and four possible answers.
If we respond well and in time, we will attack our opponent. However, if time runs out or our answer is wrong, the monster will attack us. Once we have won, we can move on to the next level which will offer us a new challenge.
On the other hand, it includes two game modes: normal dungeons to learn words and infinite dungeons, where we can test the knowledge we have learned so far. In addition, as we earn coins we can buy new heroes to help us in our crusade.
The game is designed with pixel art graphics and a cool retro soundtrack that fits perfectly with this curious game/learning method. You either learn Japanese or you don't advance, so it offers us a perfect system to play and learn a complex language like this at the same time.
