Aldarix the Battlemage is a roguelike with several elements from classic puzzle games. Players control Aldarix, who after being captured by the evil necromancer Devigon manages to escape a dungeon that he's been locked inside. Your aim is to make it back to the surface and save the kingdom. The game system in Aldarix the Battlemage is very similar to other roguelikes: every time your character moves a box, the enemies onscreen do the same. If you move into an enemy's box, you'll attack him. But if that enemy has several life points or you're surrounded, you'll get damaged, too. Luckily you'll have a wide array of spells to help you out of even the hairiest situations. The story mode in Aldarix the Battlemage has 50 different levels, all of them hand-created, where your aim is always the same: to take down every enemy and find the way out. To help you, various potions for both health and mana are scattered around the level. These potions are crucial in the later levels, which will require you to marshal all your resources.Aldarix the Battlemage is a fun combination of roguelike and puzzle game, with a traditional premise, charming pixellated graphics, and a good story mode. Plus the game is challenging and has a nice difficulty curve.
